Senior Kitizens Clinic

Our “Senior Kitizens Clinic” (named by one of our clients!) is a health programme exclusively for the more mature cat.
As cats age their organs may become less efficient and they are less able to resist infections and other diseases. Cats are prone to many of the same conditions as older people such as diabetes, kidney disease, cancer, heart, dental and thyroid problems as well as arthritis.
Regular health screening enables us to detect many of these conditions. Early diagnosis can mean that treatment is more likely to be successful in curing or controlling the problem leading to an improved longevity and quality of life. Some conditions may require medication but often a simple change of diet is all that is required.
Snowy, seen in the photo above, was found to have a high blood pressure when he was 15 years of age. We wouldn't have had any indication of this problem if he hadn't undergone a health screen. An examination of his eyes revealed early degenerative changes in his retinas. Left untreated, high blood pressure can cause a number of problems including significant behavioural changes and sudden onset blindness. We were able to introduce tablets which got the problem under control and allowed Snowy to live to the ripe old age of 19.
Our Senior Kitizen health check involves a full clinical examination, blood pressure measurement, comprehensive blood screens – biochemistry, haematology (red and white blood cells), thyroid hormone analysis and urine tests. We offer a special package price to ensure this is as accessible as possible for our owners.
We aim to make sure these health checks are as stress free as possible. Our “Senior Kitizens Clinics” are held at designated times to ensure a quiet and peaceful environment for your cat.
The Senior Kitizen assessment is particularly designed for cats 12 years old and over. If you would like to find out more about this service, please contact us.
