Charity work
We're aware that we get to see a very privileged group of cats who are much loved by their owners. Sadly there are still many cats who are not so fortunate. At The Cat Clinic we are keen to help support our local, national and international cat rescue organisations.
Rehoming rescue cats:
The tabby cat on this page is "Rocky", our previous Director Simon's rescue cat. Rocky was in the Lothian Cat Rescue centre for the second time in his life and had been with them for several months. He was one of those hard to home cats - a bit of a challenging personality and quite an old boy at 12 years of age. Luckily Simon spotted his potential! It took a bit of work but Rocky has now become an affectionate, vocal and fun cat. He still has his challenging moments but they are becoming predictable and avoidable. With the benefits of his third chance in a loving home, Rocky made it to the incredible age of twenty!
If anyone is considering a new cat we strongly advise they consider a rescue cat. Rocky is also proof that an older cat can make a fantastic pet. He wouldn't be the best pet for someone unfamiliar with cat ownership but for those more experienced owners, seeing the transformation in personality in a difficult cat is extremely rewarding. We have a noticeboard in our waiting room that has the latest information about rescue cats looking for new homes. We also share information with you about rescue cats on our Facebook.

Fundraising:
Cat Clinic reusable cotton bags are available from the clinic. We were keen to reduce the use of plastic bags but also made the decision that all profits from the sale of these bags go towards local cat rescues. As you can see, Rocky helped to demonstrate the bags!
We also help to sell items at Christmas time and support other fundraising activities throughout the year.
Donations:
In the weeks before Christmas we have a collection box in our waiting room and are happy to gather together unwanted cat food, litter, carrier boxes, litter trays, feeding bowls etc. We can also collect unwanted gifts which can help raise funds at open days or through charity shop sales. At any other time of year we're still more than happy to collect these items you and forward them to the cat charities on your behalf.
Charitable Rates:
We provide certain veterinary services at charitable rates to registered cat rescue organisations. If you work for such an organisation and you would like more information, please email us on [email protected].
Sponsorship:
We are aware that there are lots of "Rocky's" in cat rescues - not apparently the right age, not apparently the right personality but given a chance, can blossom. We were keen to see what we could do to help the other overlooked rescue cats. Working with Lothian Cat Rescue, we have decided to sponsor "Rocky's Pen" but rather than passive sponsorship, we will help share details of the difficult-to-rehome cats. We took the opportunity of sponsoring the pen on behalf of all our clients and their cats- we would like to thank everyone for the support you give us which can in turn allow us to support less fortunate cats.
