About us

Our veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses and support staff have almost forty years' collective experience working exclusively with cats.

Jennifer Divitt-Smith BVMS MRCVS.                              Claire Ferries MVB, MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon                                                           Veterinary Surgeon

Jenny Divitt-Smith, veterinary surgeon
Jenny graduated from Glasgow Vet School in 1998 before going to work in a mixed  practice in the North East of England. She then took a year out to travel and locumed throughout Britain for a further year on her return.
Jenny spent several years working in small animal practice in Glasgow, moving through  to Edinburgh in the summer of 2006. Soon after joining The Cat Clinic in 2007, Jenny gained her ESVS GP Certificate in Small Animal Medicine. She now works part-time juggling her love of veterinary medicine with motherhood.  She also lives with a mischievous Maine Coon, Cairn, and a gentle Lurcher called Max. Jenny became owner and Director of The Cat Clinic in February 2017.

Claire Ferries Veterinary Surgeon
Claire graduated from University College Dublin in 2002. She worked in small animal practice in England for 4 years before accepting a position with a charitable organisation in Mauritius working to improve the lives of the numerous cats and dogs on the island. Claire initially came to Edinburgh as a locum vet which included some time working for The Cat Clinic. She made the permanent move here in 2010 and has worked in small animal practice in the area ever since. Claire has always had a particular interest in feline medicine and lives with her husband, daughter and their cat Molly.

Miriam Main BVM&S MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon

Picture
Miriam graduated from the Royal (Dick) Vet School here in Edinburgh in 2010. She started her careeer in paradise, working for a charity clinic in the beautiful Cook Islands, before returning to the UK to a mixed practice in Falkirk. After two years, she moved to Cornwall and spent several happy years working there, enjoying the sun and sea, before being tempted back up to Scotland to join The Cat Clinic. She loves all cats and is especially interested in caring for our older patients. As well as her husband John and young daughter Matilda, Miriam shares her home with two cats:  a mischievous Siamese called Bailey and well behaved moggy called Bruce. She owns a herd of Exmoor ponies that are currently grazing at Swanston.

Patricia Pimenta MSc MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon

Patricia graduated from the Universidade de Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Portugal, in 2015 - her love of cats being the driving force to get her to Vet School.  As a student she would foster ill and injured cats and work to help socialise feral kittens.
Patricia started her working life as a vet in Lisbon's Cat Hospital before moving to the UK in 2018.  She joined The Cat Clinic team in October 2018 covering a maternity leave and is now a permanent member of staff.
Patricia is currently studying towards a further feline medicine qualification, hoping to sit the Medicine In Cats exam in 2020!

Update: Patricia left The Cat Clinic team in July for some new adventures in 'the big smoke'. We wish her well.

Anne Christison  BVM&S MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon
Anne has joined us this year to cover Miriam's maternity leave.

Anne graduated from the Royal (Dick) Vet School in 2009 and later went on to complete an internship there in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery in 2011.  Having worked in small animal practices locally for a few years, Anne then moved south,  spending the last 2 years locuming in London.  Her true love is cats but she enjoys helping out with her Dad's rare breed pigs and sheep in East Lothian.
Anne enjoys all aspects of feline medicine but has a particular interest in dentistry.

Emma McLean, Veterinary Nurse
Emma has worked as a Veterinary Nurse in Edinburgh since 2001. She studied Veterinary Nursing at Edinburgh’s Telford College and qualified in 2004. Emma joined The Cat Clinic in the summer of 2013. Emma previously worked as a Veterinary Receptionist in Qatar in the Middle East where she re-homed four stray dogs and brought them back with her to the UK. She currently has two Saluki crossbreeds, Suzi and Winter, and her parents adopted the other two. As well as helping the stray dogs, she also helped with a TNR (Trap Neuter Release) programme for many stray cats in her compound as well as fundraising and volunteering for the animal charities in the country. Previous to working abroad, Emma worked for the SSPCA Rehoming Centre in Balerno and attended Edinburgh’s Telford College and completed part of her Veterinary Nursing training. Emma has always had a love for animals, especially for the less fortunate ones.

Rebekah Speake
Veterinary Receptionist

Picture of Rebekah
Rebekah joined The Cat Clinic team in February 2017. Having graduated from Queen Margaret University with a degree in Theatre and Film, what started as a stop-gap job in a local cattery prompted a change of heart and the decision to pursue a career in animal care.  Rebekah is one of our receptionists at The Cat Clinic where she is currently  sharing her role with Diane. She loves meeting all of our clients and their many cats! She soon hopes to apply for Veterinary Nursing at SRUC so she can continue working with animals in the future. Rebekah lives in Edinburgh with three crazy cats of her own; Bailey, Gizmo and Sebastian.

Other Faces at The Cat Clinic
Veterinary Students

We have a number of approaches from veterinary students who are keen to "see practice" with us during their undergraduate studies. We're very happy
to offer these placements to allow us to pass on our knowledge and
experience to the next generation of veterinary surgeons. Clients can
be assured that the students are supervised at all times.

Meet the patients

We thought you might want to meet the real stars of The Cat Clinic! Meet some of the patients who have come through our doors.

"After scolding one's cat one looks into its face and is seized by the ugly suspicion that it understood every word. And has
filed it for reference."- Charlotte Gray
